Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
Our Strings Ensemble
Our string ensemble program provides students with unique opportunities to develop their musical skills and perform on some of the world’s most prestigious stages. Recently, our students had the remarkable experience of performing three pieces—Bushwhacker Stomp, The General’s Order, and Elvenwood - at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Festival of Instrumental Music. Students rehearsed diligently and performed with confidence, including a standout violin solo by a student during the finale. This experience allowed students to collaborate with peers, showcase their talents, and experience the excitement of performing in a world-class venue. Students described the day as fun, exciting and nerve-racking. With its strong emphasis on teamwork and musical growth, our strings program nurtures confidence, artistic expression and a lifelong love of music.
Spelling Bee
The school was extremely proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students. Austin from Year 4 recently earned a commendable 3rd place in the state of New South Wales at the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee! Battling some of the toughest vocabulary, including the word oxymoron, Austin demonstrated exceptional focus, courage, and sportsmanship. His remarkable success highlights both his dedication and the supportive learning environment at the school, where students are encouraged to aim high and challenge themselves.
Combined Schools Concert
Our senior dance group recently had the special opportunity to perform at the Combined Schools Concert for Public Schools, showcasing their talent and creativity alongside students from other schools. They performed two dynamic routines: a high-energy mashup of four Michael Jackson songs, packed with iconic moves, and a spirited dance to Revolting Children from Matilda, full of expressive faces and theatrical flair. The students’ dedication, skill and enthusiasm shone throughout, impressing both the audience and their families. This experience highlights the vibrant performing arts opportunities at our school.
Film and Broadcasting
Our Film and Broadcasting program provides students with a dynamic, industry-inspired learning experience where they develop real cinematography and storytelling skills. Students learn visual literacy, composition and the art of shaping meaning in film, while also having opportunities to share their work with visiting educators and neighbouring schools. Our program has achieved exceptional results—our 2024 student films, The Friends Inside and S.E.P.A. Speaks for the Trees successfully competed in the Department of Education heat for the Short + Sweet Film Festival, with The Friends Inside not only placing third in the audience choice award but also winning ‘Best Department of Education Film’ at the gala finale. Students extend their learning through hands-on experiences, including scriptwriting, pre-production, studio work and exploring animation technologies such as OpenToonz, Astropad, and Adobe Fresco. By mastering advanced techniques students enhance their filmmaking and grow as creative storytellers. Our aim is to empower students to become confident filmmakers who develop their artistic skills, collaborate effectively and bring their stories to life.
Festival of Choral Music
Our senior choir offers a truly exceptional musical experience, combining rigorous training with memorable performance opportunities. Under the guidance of our music teachers, students dedicate many hours to learning songs by memory, developing their vocal skills, expanding their confidence and stage presence. This year their hard work culminated in a performance at the Sydney Opera House where they impressed conductors and audiences with pieces such as You’ve Got a Friend in Me and Manly Ferry with live band accompaniment. Students also shared the stage with soloists and ensembles, gaining experience in collaborative performance and showcasing their talent to a large, appreciative audience. Our choir program provides a supportive environment where students can grow musically, perform at the highest level and create lasting memories.
"I’m so thankful for the incredible team at Croydon Public School for prioritising open and honest respectful transparent communication. As a single parent, staying connected with teachers means the world to me—it helps ensure my child’s learning and wellbeing are supported in every way possible.
Parenting isn’t a solo journey; it truly takes a caring community, to ensure voices are heard and both children and families thrive. Having teachers who share insights and collaborate with me makes all the difference. Thank you to every staff member who goes above and beyond to nurture each child. Your commitment doesn’t go unnoticed!"
- Sarah, parent of Joshua
